Sinners

Today we hung my exhibition at the Punter on Osney Island, Oxford. This is always a scary time because as a artist this is where you put your money were your mouth is .... literally! I have invested time, effort and money in this exhibition. So it was a surprise to discover that the plaster was to fragile to put hooks in and we had to go with the ones the pub put in for their own paintings. However it rooms are wide and spacious with a good ambiance.

These are the last two paintings for the Osney Island Masque installation.  They number 21 in all and each shows the public face of the island. Tom Rainey of The Punter, who invited me to exhibit in the 2012 Artweeks, is the only islander that I have met. I look forward to meeting the island's  faces.

Painting a large view on these small canvases are proving to be a struggle. I am forced to leave out loads of detail and the result is a fresher painting. The trick now is to transfer this knowledge to larger canvases.

My plan of painting the street signs on the island proved to be tricky. I wanted to show their placement on the island. This meant I was painting a large view which was tricky for this size canvas or like the Bridge Street one a unusual composition.
